Angus
Adoption Date: 01-09-04 History: Angus came into GLBCR foster care because his mom died when he was just a few days old. He was bottle fed, kept warm, and given all the loving attention a human surrogate mom can provide. As Angus grew, he became especially fond of playing tug games, wrestling, and swimming. However, his biggest joy is to go for car rides. Angus also has a large vocabulary, making a variety of noises to tell his thoughts and wishes. Update: Angus found his forever home and traveling buddy. He gets to ride almost every day and hang out in the workshop. Angus is adjusting very well to life here. Some days Mom and I do the adjusting (that's the way he tells it, anyway). He did not talk to us much the first few days but now I think we know his whole vocabulary! We have alot of stuff to work on outside but the weather is holding us back. I know what you mean about the ice. Angus just loves watching me slide and fall and he has developed a laugh. But he also has taken a roll or two trying to tug me down which I laugh at him....turnabout is fair play. Angus is still doing very well. His main problem is learning his boundaries. We will overcome that in time. 01/09/04 |

Cody (was Smokey)
Cody really likes to let us know how much he loves us. He is VERY affectionate with rubbing his muzzle against our faces while placing a paw gently on our shoulder or chest. Before bedtime he will crawl up between my wife and I and rub up against us and squirm around until he is on his back for maximum tummy rubbing. He repeats this in the morning immediately after the alarm goes off. He has been my constant companion during my work as a fraud investigator. He loves his car rides and the overnight travel, too! He has turned into the Frisbee monster...running, catching, leaping...his favorite exercise. This adoption has turned out better than we ever thought it would. He is such a sweet creature. Thank you so much! 11/25/2006 Cody passed his Therapy Dogs International (TDI) assessment in June of 2006. He received his own TDI photo ID and nifty I AM A THERAPY DOG collar tag in August. Cody and I are now official certifed volunteers with the Rainbow Hospice pet therapy program. Rainbow Hospice is located in Park Ridge, IL. Cody is a super gentleman with all dogs, adults and children. He loves greeting everyone - never shy, never tentative, always respectful and under control. He is great off leash, loves to play frisbee, and loves to sleep in bed. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful companion, friend and beloved member of our family. 01/20/04 |

| Niki has done so well this past year, it has been great watching the change in her. Last spring we went for obedience training and she has proven to be a quick learner and better trained than my other border collie Dusty. She is quite energetic and loves to play constantly. We have a lot of fun with her. She and Dusty have become good friends and wrestle all the time. They both want to be loved at the same time. I have learned how to make them each feel special at the same time. It took some practice. Niki has to be touching a person all the time if she's not playing or dropping a toy in our laps. She is my needy pup and so we indulge her with constant hugs and rubs. She can't bare to be scolded or else she must put her face into yours for reinforcement and love. She loves to go for rides in the car. One of her favorite activities. This past summer I taught her how to play Frisbee and she is awesome. She never misses a catch. She did fall into the pool a couple of times catching the Frisbee but of course came up with the Frisbee in her mouth and she didn't skip a beat. She has proven to be a wonderful addition to our human and canine family and we all have grown to love her immensely. She manages to worm her way into anyone's heart who takes the time to get to know her. She is still frightened when strangers come into the house. It's the one carry over from her early months that I can't seem to break. If I'm there with her and she's on the leash I can settle her down but it is a struggle. I wonder what happened to her whenever the door opened in her former life. That seems to still haunt her. Other than that she is truly a wonderful pet. I think she is most attached to me as I did her obedience training and we bonded a great deal during that time. It has been, as with our other dog, a very rewarding experience to rescue her and watch her blossom. By the way, she turned out to be really a beautiful dog. I have attached a picture of her and Dusty. She is larger than Dusty now. It doesn't seem to stop Dusty from getting her in a head lock however. Thanks for letting us participate in saving a border collie. |
Niki (Niblet) 01/23/04
Just thought I would let you know that Niblet who we now call Niki has settled in extremely well. She is constant motion and energy. Dusty is exhausted. They are playing well together to my surprise so quickly. They remind me of a couple of kids. It's quite cute. I have taken a bunch of pictures of them and will send them along to you once they are developed. Thanks for all your help. We are all loving Niki and all the fun she has brought into the house. We are working on house training. She doesn't quite have it yet but is making progress. She follows me all over house and loves to try to get into every cabinet I open. She is so curious! I hope you bare staying warm and dry with all the snow. Thanks for helping us get our new addition.

Mia
She's been playing fetch with the ball a bit. She actually brought it over earlier when Pat told her to "go get the ball!" Sometimes she'll bring it to us to throw, other times she'll just lay down with it and chew on it. :) Pat's been "Marti proofing" the basement most of the day. :) I'm sure the kitty will be a LOT happier when her food and litter box will be readily available to her without worrying about Mia getting into them. :) Well, that's it for now. I should probably go check up on them since I hear them bolting around the house out there. I think they'll both sleep REALLY well tonight. :) Have a good one and talk to you later! 01/28/04 |

Jobey
I wanted to update you on our guy, Jobey. He has settled in well and eats like a horse. After about three weeks he decided that he really lives here and is making the house his own. He developed a problem with chewing furniture, but I think we have that solved. Being a "country guy" I don't think he realized it was wrong. He also knows now that every time we leave, we come back! He has taken to herding our cats on a real low level and they being very "Border wise" ignore him. We went for our longest car ride today and he realized he could watch out the window. He is relaxing. Our next challenge to overcome is that he is now our only dog. We lost my 16 year old Border yesterday, and Jobey seems to know how bad I feel. He hasn't let me out of his sight. Thanks for helping us find a sweetheart of a dog. Borders are simply the best. 02/15/04 |

Bo 0204
05/15/2008 He still acts like a puppy with unending energy especially in the cooler weather here in Michigan this spring. He is, in our opinion, the smartest and cutest dog on earth. We both just love him! He absolutely adores his daddy. We cant imagine our lives without Bo. We were truly blessed to have found him. He will soon have a new little baby sister kitten. We have already named her Lucy (for the orange-red hair), and we keep talking about her to Bo so he gets familiar with at least her name. The kitten is currently being fostered in a home where there are 7 other dogs of all sizes, so she should be ok with a dog in her life. |

Diamond Just thought I'd drop you a note to let you know how the first night and first day went with Lady and Diamond. Last night they had a few problems with territory and they still are working them out, but in a nicer manner now. The basement is the neutral ground for them and they get along great down there. Lady is trying to teach him how to play with the big ball. He is starting to get the hang of it. He prefers to heard the ball while lady moves it around. He's learned a new command already and that is "up-up" for coming up the stairs. He and lady went for a walk at the park and walked very well together side by side and no problems at all. He is a very sweet boy with good manners for his age and that has to do with you and your wonderful training that you did with him. Thank you. I will give you another up date after he's been here for at least a week so his true colors come out cause I'm sure he's playing low right now. 0204 02/22/2007 Here is a picture of Diamond (AVID # 064-516-548)who my family adopted 2/15/04. It was a rough few years trying to get Diamond to trust, but he has been doing great now that he knows he has a home for good now. He is great at frisbee and is picking up on agility pretty good. He is such a lover and loves to hug and snuggle. He gets along with my female border collie (lady who is 6 yrs old) I was so thankful that the lady who was caring for him drove from Indiana to Michigan so we could adopt him. He has brought great joy to our family. THANKS BCR!!! |

Ona (Sammy) 10/24/2006 We adopted Sammy (now Ona) in January of 2004. She was listed on your other available BC page. The tale of how we all came together is mysterious to us to this day. We had been looking for a BC because we had lost our Princess in November and needed someone to love. Every time we inquired about a BC that was listed we were a day late it seemed. Then on a Friday evening we got a call from someone that I still don't know her name who said we needed to meet this special girl right away. We were actually scheduled to meet another dog the next morning from another rescue group about 60 miles in the opposite direction. Well if someone is calling out of the blue saying we need to go maybe it is meant to be. We can't take the chance of missing our possible new girl. Even though she was totally uninterested in us we saw how BC focused she was on her current caregiver. That was enough if she could just redirect that devotion toward us. Boy, was she raw! It was like we were speaking English to a foreign dog. Ona didn't know any commands, was not housebroken, didn't walk on leash, wouldn't eat kibble, she was a 3 1/2 year + puppy basically and only wanted to have my husband near her. Did I mention that she was TERRIFIED of people? Loud booming barking if anyone tried to come over, guests stayed maybe 5 minutes and had to leave and riding the elevator to go outside was a nightmare. She didn't know what a toy or chewbone was and looked at me like I was nuts when I tried to get her to play. We signed up for obedience training before the sun had set on the third day! We are not only dog lovers but dogs are literally our lives 24/7, we walk dogs. So, we knew that this could work out with lots of love and consistency. Over 2 1/2 years later, our Ona Bologna is Mary Poppins, practically perfect in everyway. I wouldn't trade one 45 pound bladder relieved on the bed for my girl. Ona graduated from Basic Obedience and Super Basic, star pupil, of course! Maybe, I'm just a proud mom. I don't know who the angel was that put us together, but whoever you are... Thank You. |
